Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS) was officially established on October 24, 1981, evolving from the Muhammadiyah Teacher Training Institute (IKIP) Surakarta, which originated in 1958 as part of Muhammadiyah University Jakarta. IKIP gained independence in 1965 and merged with the Muhammadiyah Islamic Institute (IAIM) in 1979 under Drs. H. Mohamad Djazman’s leadership. By 1981, UMS had five faculties: FKIP, Economics, Law, Engineering, and Islamic Religion (FAI). Today, UMS offers programs at the Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral levels.

School's Mission

  1. Developing science, technology, and art as an integrated part of worship to Allah that delivers impacts to the notion of “Masyarakat Utama”.

  2. Evolving human resources that rely on Islamic values and provide progressive transformations in pursuit of “Masyarakat Utama”.

School's Vision

In 2029, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta will become the center of education and development of science and technology which upholds Islamic noble values and provides a progressive transformation.
