Every part of Indonesia has its unique way of sharing stories and history, and Yogyakarta is a perfect example. From its vibrant streets to its historic temples and museums, along with its welcoming people, the city offers a rich tapestry of culture. Exploring Indonesia's history and traditions is both enjoyable and fascinating, especially with the guidance of locals who truly appreciate their heritage.

My journey through Yogyakarta ignited my curiosity as I learned more about Indonesian culture while having fun uncovering its unique history. I also realized that Filipino and Indonesian cultures have many similarities—such as their famous batiks, certain culinary dishes, traditional street games, and toys. At Museum Sonobudoyo, I encountered an engaging timeline of Indonesia's history, showcasing its kings and queens, musical instruments, iconic batik patterns, artworks featuring Arabic proverbs, and traditional toys like slingshots, flutes, and whistles. After visiting the museum, we stopped by a small stall nearby to enjoy bakso (an Indonesian noodle soup), sitting on mats placed along the sidewalk.

To enhance the experience, the museum offers visitors a chance to try their hand at making batik for just 10,000 IDR—an engaging opportunity that combines culture and creativity in a memorable way.
